UST Removal

Wingfield Environmental has staff that has been conducting underground storage tank (UST) removals and closures in place for over 30 years. Our team combines skilled heavy equipment operators, licensed geologists, and environmental professionals to deliver efficient, compliant, and well-documented tank closure projects across the Southeast.

When Removal Makes Sense

Aging or unused tanks can pose serious environmental and financial risks to tank owners or property owners, not to mention 3rd party liability. Corrosion, product leaks, and regulatory noncompliance can lead to soil or groundwater contamination from USTs which can lead to costly investigation and cleanup. Wingfield Environmental works hand in hand with tank owners and government agencies in the application to close these tanks, safely removes the tanks per applicable state/federal guidance, conducts confirmatory sampling of the soil or groundwater around the tanks, and prepares accurate and precise closure reports for tank owners and government regulators.

UST Removal Services Include

Our UST removal projects are managed by experienced professionals who have overseen thousands of tank removals in Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. Each project includes:

  • Permitting and notifications – We complete and submit all required applications to local and state agencies prior to work.

  • Excavation and removal – Our team uses top-quality heavy equipment and trained operators experienced in safe tank excavation and handling.

  • Environmental oversight – Licensed geologists and environmental professionals oversee removal, collect confirmation samples per state regulations, and monitor for explosive atmospheres during excavation.

  • Waste management – We coordinate the proper disposal of tanks, sludge, water, and any contaminated soil generated during removal.

  • Closure reporting – A detailed final report documents the work, sampling results, manifests, and disposal records to meet regulatory closure requirements.
